Training & Exercise
Exercise and training is the main part of our dogs daily routine. We are lucky enough to have 2.5 acres of our own land to exercise the dogs on, and we have access to private woodland next door to us. This gives us lots of options when it comes to keeping the dogs busy and active.
The main basis of our dogs fitness is free running and interaction with each other. As all the dogs are exercised together they keep each other occupied, in turn the playing and chasing they do keeps them extremely fit.
The free running can't be replicated by any other activity, it gives the dogs great stamina, strength and improves on their agility in a very natural way. Most importantly it gives the dogs very good core muscle strength which is hard to achieve with other exerise.
Its this core strength that enables them to excel at the athletic events and competitions. It also benifits them in the long run and later in life. All dogs from a young age are run along with the older dogs, and are aloud to do as much or as little as they please - this will develop their abilites at their own pace. They are NEVER forced to exercise, they will always do so on thier own accord, they are free to lie down and rest or sit down when ever they please - this is the beauty of not using a lead. Exercising with the older dogs also creates crucial bonds amongst the dogs, and is a major part of their learning and maturing . We try and keep all aspects of exercise fun and natural for them - this will help the dogs to perform at their best and get the most out of any exercise we do with them.
We do take an hour or so out of every day to spend one on one with each dog - either doing obediance, conditioning or training. This varies depending on the dog. For example the younger dogs will maybe practice getting used to the A frame, encouraging drive using the flirt pole, getting used to the weight pull harness or some basic obediance. Where as the older dogs will be more specific ie Drag pulling for weight pull training, running along side the bike, spring pole. This will be more intense and be more about fine tuning the dogs fitness, to get the best from them. Even at this age the emphasis is on fun and wanting more.

Here are some photos of the dogs exercising - you can see the dogs using the Flirt pole, playing tug of war, on the spring pole and just running around.
Because of how active our dogs are we would soon notice any structural faults or health issues, aswell as the health screening this is a very good way of ensuring that the dogs we will breed will be extremely capable - We will have tested them, worked them and seen what they are physically capable of before we decide to breed, as we only want to produce the best bulldogs we possibly can.
It is not just physical abilites that the dogs need to be a good athletic example, they need to have good drive, confidence and nerve. We feel that this temperament is passed down from parents to pups, so in our eyes exercise and temperament is crucial when it comes to breeding good quailty dogs.
If and when we do breed we want to be sure of what we are producing. All our dogs have to be 100% sound in body and mind - We feel that the set up we have, and the experience and knowledge from both us and others around us, combined with the exercise and training helps us to achive this.
